LUCIANA CAPORASO... ...is one of the UK's most exciting pop vocalists and performers. As the voice of one of 2006's biggest club crossover tracks - the UK 2 smash hit 'Yeah Yeah' by Bodyrox - she is enjoying worldwide acclaim for her inimitable voice and commanding stage presence. A true multi-talent, Luciana is also an emerging presence on the contemporary art scene.
Luciana's career started with her first single 'Get It Up For Love' with Danny D from D Mob on Chrysalis in '94. The seeds of a successful singing career were sewn and Luciana branched out to further develop her abilities. In 1996 she joined the already-established group Crush, toured the States and contributed vocals on their self-titled sophomore album. Her career slowly but steadily gathering steam, Luciana joined Full Intention's Michael Gray and Jon Pearn in 1998 to sing on 'I Don't Know If I Should Call You Baby'. Produced under the pair's Definitive moniker and released on Electrik Funk Records, it signalled the start of a long and fruitful working relationship with the pair.
Continuing to explore different musical mediums, Luciana and her new band Shooter released the album 'And Your Point?' on Columbia Records in the US in 1999. Shooter received acclaim for their blend of high-gloss, attitude heavy pop tinged with hip hop beats. 'This Is Who I Am' and 'I'm All You Need' were both received well, while 'Life's a Bitch' enjoyed substantial success in the United States on the airplay charts.
Returning from the US to the UK in the new millennium, Luciana began frequenting electroclash clubs like Trash and Nag Nag Nag and became influenced by the sounds of Rapture, Gary Numan and Goldfrapp. Reinvigorated by this fresh and adventurous sound, she began working again with Michael Gray and long time writing partner Nick Clow and eventually formed Portobella. The first Eye Industries-released Portobella tracks, 'London Punk / Freakin' In Stereo', received great support from Pete Tong and a host of other DJ's and went straight to the top of the DJ buzz charts. Portobella signed with Island-Universal Records in 2004 and released the singles Covered In Punk (featuring mixes from Michael Gray) and 'Viva La Difference' ( remixed by Martijn Ten Velden and Mark Knight). It was at this time that Luciana also took part in the hit MTV series "Breaking Point", a behind -the-scenes documentary following artists as they tried to progress in the music industry. However, despite critical acclaim, particularly from LA where the single had become the most requested track ever on local independent radio, Portobella failed to make a sizable dent in the national charts and split with Universal in 2005. During this time Luciana was also indulging her other passion for art. Having already designed artwork for posters and album sleeves within the music industry, her first original collection - 'Icon'- was unveiled in Soho, London in 2004 and was a collection of portraits of major figures of popular culture, combining photography, painting, silver and gold leaf.
2006 saw Luciana enjoy unprecedented success as she and Nick Clow continued writing toplines for other artists. Martijn Ten Velden's 'I Wish You Would' was extremely well received (culminating in a No.1 in Brazil), but it was Bodyrox's 'Yeah Yeah' which made Luciana a household name. Produced Jon Pearn and Nick Bridges, Bodyrox's 'Yeah Yeah' blew up in mid 2006 thanks to a remix by D Ramirez. Hammered in clubs for months and supported by DJ-producers including Erick Morillo, Ferry Corsten, Michael Gray, Roger Sanchez, Sander Kleinenberg and Sir Norman Jay MBE, the hype surrounding the single eventually pushed it outside clubs and onto the radio where it received support from Pete Tong, Jo Whiley, Fergie and Judge Jules on Radio 1 as well as Galaxy and Kiss. The decision was made to put a vocal on it and this is where Luciana and Nick stepped in, penning the lyrics, in her own words, '...after I got pissed one night and had an argument with my boyfriend'. The result surpassed all expectations. Bodyrox Featuring Luciana - 'Yeah Yeah' - debuted at 2 in the UK Top 40 Singles charts in late October and remained in the Top 10 for over a month. 'The drunken ramblings of a woman scorned' struck a chord with music fans worldwide; Her feisty, punk-edged voice found a new legion of fans and the raunchy video directed by Michael Baldwin was played on all major music channels, eventually leading to an Ivor Novello nomination for Best Contemporary Song.
Her last Bodyrox collaboration 'What Planet You On' was another uber - stylish and catchy pop/dance cross over hit, the record was no. 1 in the club charts and was championed by the likes of Pete Tong and Zane Lowe. The success of the single paved the way for a special compilation album simply called 'Featuring Luciana'. It's a collection of twelve monster club tracks she has featured on - an extremely impressive repertoire mixed by the fabulous Rob Roar from Ministry of Sound Radio. Alongside her musical career, she continues to pursue her love of art. Together with her photography and styling partner David Burgoyne, 'Shooter' has already enjoyed great success- having been commissioned by artists including Michael Gray, Shena, Supermal and of course Bodyrox.
Grammy nominated remixer/ producer Richard Vission rocks dance floors around the world with his recent remixes of Weezer, RadioHead, Timbaland, Prince, Lady Gaga, Static Revenger and David Bowie, as well as his original productions like "Somebody" and his new single "Never Be Alone" is set for release early 2009. His label Solmatic has grown from releasing some of the top underground bangers of the year to being a full blown dance club residency phenom - (think F**k Me I'm Famous 3 years ago).
